ٱلْبَقَرَة : ١٤٦

  • ٱلَّذِينَ (To) those whom
  • ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمُ We gave [them]
  • ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ the Book
  • يَعۡرِفُونَهُۥ they recognize it
  • كَمَا like
  • يَعۡرِفُونَ they recognize
  • أَبۡنَآءَهُمۡۖ their sons
  • وَإِنَّ And indeed
  • فَرِيقٗا a group
  • مِّنۡهُمۡ of them
  • لَيَكۡتُمُونَ surely they conceal
  • ٱلۡحَقَّ the Truth
  • وَهُمۡ while they
  • يَعۡلَمُونَ know
Those to whom We gave the Scripture know him [i.e., Prophet Muḥammad (ﷺ)] as they know their own sons. But indeed, a party of them conceal the truth while they know [it].
Those to whom We have given the Scripture, they recognise him, Muhammad may peace and salutation be upon him, as they recognise their sons, because of the descriptions of him in their Scripture: ['Abd Allaah] Ibn Salaam said, 'I recognised him the moment I ﷺ him, as I would my own son; but my recognition of Muhammad may peace and salutation be upon him was more intense'; even though there is a party of them that conceal the truth, that is, his description, while they know, this [truth] which you [Muhammad may peace and salutation be upon him] follow.
