ٱلْأَعْرَاف : ٧٧

  • فَعَقَرُواْ Then they hamstrung
  • ٱلنَّاقَةَ the she-camel
  • وَعَتَوۡاْ and (were) insolent
  • عَنۡ towards
  • أَمۡرِ (the) command
  • رَبِّهِمۡ (of) their Lord
  • وَقَالُواْ and they said
  • يَٰصَٰلِحُ O Salih
  • ٱئۡتِنَا Bring us
  • بِمَا what
  • تَعِدُنَآ you promise us
  • إِن if
  • كُنتَ you are
  • مِنَ of
  • ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ the Messengers
So they hamstrung the she-camel and were insolent toward the command of their Lord and said, "O Ṣāliḥ, bring us what you promise us, if you should be of the messengers."
The she-camel was given the water one day and then, another; but they soon tired of this: So they hamstrung the she-camel - Qudaar hamstrung her by their command, killing her with a sword - and flouted the commandment of their Lord, and said, 'O Saalih, bring upon us that which you promised us, in the way of chastisement for [our] killing it, if you are indeed a messenger'.
