Ash-Shuraa: 48

Ayah

Word by Word
فَإِنۡ
Then if
أَعۡرَضُواْ
they turn away
فَمَآ
then not
أَرۡسَلۡنَٰكَ
We have sent you
عَلَيۡهِمۡ
over them
حَفِيظًاۖ
(as) a guardian
إِنۡ
Not
عَلَيۡكَ
(is) on you
إِلَّا
except
ٱلۡبَلَٰغُۗ
the conveyance
وَإِنَّآ
And indeed
إِذَآ
when
أَذَقۡنَا
We cause to taste
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ
[the] man
مِنَّا
from Us
رَحۡمَةٗ
Mercy
فَرِحَ
he rejoices
بِهَاۖ
in it
وَإِن
But if
تُصِبۡهُمۡ
befalls them
سَيِّئَةُۢ
evil
بِمَا
for what
قَدَّمَتۡ
have sent forth
أَيۡدِيهِمۡ
their hands
فَإِنَّ
then indeed
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ
[the] man
كَفُورٞ
(is) ungrateful

Translation

If then they run away, We have not sent thee as a guard over them. Thy duty is but to convey (the Message). And truly, when We give man a taste of a Mercy from Ourselves, he doth exult thereat, but when some ill happens to him, on account of the deeds which his hands have sent forth, truly then is man ungrateful!
