Al-Anfal: 48

Ayah

Word by Word
وَإِذۡ
And when
زَيَّنَ
made fair-seeming
لَهُمُ
to them
ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنُ
the Shaitaan
أَعۡمَٰلَهُمۡ
their deeds
وَقَالَ
and he said
لَا
No (one)
غَالِبَ
(can) overcome
لَكُمُ
[to] you
ٱلۡيَوۡمَ
today
مِنَ
from
ٱلنَّاسِ
the people
وَإِنِّي
and indeed, I am
جَارٞ
a neighbor
لَّكُمۡۖ
for you
فَلَمَّا
But when
تَرَآءَتِ
came in sight
ٱلۡفِئَتَانِ
the two forces
نَكَصَ
he turned away
عَلَىٰ
on
عَقِبَيۡهِ
his heels
وَقَالَ
and said
إِنِّي
Indeed, I am
بَرِيٓءٞ
free
مِّنكُمۡ
of you
إِنِّيٓ
Indeed, I
أَرَىٰ
see
مَا
what
لَا
not
تَرَوۡنَ
you see
إِنِّيٓ
indeed, I
أَخَافُ
[I] fear
ٱللَّهَۚ
Allah
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
شَدِيدُ
(is) severe
ٱلۡعِقَابِ
(in) the penalty

Translation

Remember Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them, and said: "No one among men can overcome you this day, while I am near to you": But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he turned on his heels, and said: "Lo! I am clear of you; lo! I see what ye see not; Lo! I fear Allah: for Allah is strict in punishment."
