Ayah

Translation

They take their priests and their anchorites to be their lords in derogation of Allah, and (they take as their Lord) Christ the son of Mary; yet they were commanded to worship but One Allah: there is no god but He. Praise and glory to Him: (Far is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him).<br/>

Tafsir

They have taken their rabbis, the scholars among the Jews, and their monks, the devout among the Christians, as lords beside God - following them in making lawful what God has made unlawful and making unlawful what He has made lawful - and the Messiah, son of Mary, when they were not commanded, in the Torah and the Bible, except to worship One God: there is no god except Him; glory be to Him, as an affirmation of His transcendence [high], above what they associate [with Him].
