(of) the former (people)

Translation

When Our Signs are rehearsed to him, he says, "Tales of the ancients!"

Tafsir

When Our signs, [of] Al-Qur'an, are recited to him, he says, '[Mere] fables (asaateer) of the ancients!', [mere] tales that were written down (sutirat) in ancient times (asaateer is the plural of ustoora or istaara).
