Ayah

فَرِيقًا
A group
هَدَىٰ
He guided
وَفَرِيقًا
and a group
حَقَّ
deserved
عَلَيۡهِمُ
[on] they
ٱلضَّلَٰلَةُۚ
the astraying
إِنَّهُمُ
Indeed, they
ٱتَّخَذُواْ
take
ٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ
the devils
أَوۡلِيَآءَ
(as) allies
مِن
from
دُونِ
besides
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
وَيَحۡسَبُونَ
while they think
أَنَّهُم
that they
مُّهۡتَدُونَ
(are the) guided-ones
فَرِيقًا
A group
هَدَىٰ
He guided
وَفَرِيقًا

حَقَّ
deserved
عَلَيۡهِمُ
[on] they
ٱلضَّلَٰلَةُۚ
the astraying
إِنَّهُمُ
Indeed, they
ٱتَّخَذُواْ

ٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ
the devils
أَوۡلِيَآءَ
(as) allies
مِن
from
دُونِ
besides
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
وَيَحۡسَبُونَ
while they think
أَنَّهُم
that they
مُّهۡتَدُونَ
(are the) guided-ones

Translation

Some He hath guided: Others have (by their choice) deserved the loss of their way; in that they took the evil ones, in preference to Allah, for their friends and protectors, and think that they receive guidance.

Tafsir

A party, of you, He has guided, while another party has deserved to go astray - they have taken devils as patrons instead of God, that is, other than Him, and think that they are guided'.
