رَبِّ
O my Lord
إِنِّي
Indeed, I
لَآ
(do) not
أَمۡلِكُ
(have) power
إِلَّا
except
نَفۡسِي
(over) myself
وَأَخِيۖ
and my brother
فَٱفۡرُقۡ
so (make a) separation
بَيۡنَنَا
between us
وَبَيۡنَ
and between
ٱلۡقَوۡمِ
the people
ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ
(the) defiantly disobedient
قَالَ
He said
رَبِّ
O my Lord
إِنِّي
Indeed, I
لَآ
(do) not
أَمۡلِكُ
(have) power
إِلَّا
except
نَفۡسِي
(over) myself
وَأَخِيۖ
and my brother
فَٱفۡرُقۡ
so (make a) separation
بَيۡنَنَا
between us
وَبَيۡنَ
and between
ٱلۡقَوۡمِ
the people
ٱلۡفَٰسِقِينَ
(the) defiantly disobedient

Translation

[Moses] said, "My Lord, indeed I do not possess [i.e., control] except myself and my brother, so part us1 from the defiantly disobedient people."

Tafsir

He, Moses, thereupon, said, 'My Lord, I control none but myself and my brother, and I control no one else to be able to force them to obedience. So separate, distinguish, us from the wicked folk'.
