وَأَمَّا
And as for
ثَمُودُ
Thamud
فَهَدَيۡنَٰهُمۡ
We guided them
فَٱسۡتَحَبُّواْ
but they preferred
ٱلۡعَمَىٰ
[the] blindness
عَلَى
over
ٱلۡهُدَىٰ
the guidance
فَأَخَذَتۡهُمۡ
so seized them
صَٰعِقَةُ
a thunderbolt
ٱلۡعَذَابِ
(of) the punishment
ٱلۡهُونِ
humiliating
بِمَا
for what
كَانُواْ
they used (to)
يَكۡسِبُونَ
earn
وَأَمَّا
And as for
ثَمُودُ
Thamud
فَهَدَيۡنَٰهُمۡ
We guided them
فَٱسۡتَحَبُّواْ
but they preferred
ٱلۡعَمَىٰ
[the] blindness
عَلَى

ٱلۡهُدَىٰ
the guidance
فَأَخَذَتۡهُمۡ

صَٰعِقَةُ
a thunderbolt
ٱلۡعَذَابِ
(of) the punishment

بِمَا

كَانُواْ
they used (to)
يَكۡسِبُونَ
earn

Translation

As to the Thamud, We gave them Guidance, but they preferred blindness (of heart) to Guidance: so the stunning Punishment of humiliation seized them, because of what they had earned.

Tafsir

And as for Thamood, We offered them guidance, We pointed out to them the path of guidance, but they preferred blindness, they chose disbelief [as opposed], to guidance. So the thunderbolt of the humiliating chastisement seized them on account of what they used to earn.
