وَٱضۡرِبۡ
And set forth
لَهُم

أَصۡحَٰبَ
(of the) companions
ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ
(of) the city
إِذۡ

جَآءَهَا
came to it
ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ
the Messengers
وَٱضۡرِبۡ
And set forth
لَهُم
to them
مَّثَلًا
an example
أَصۡحَٰبَ
(of the) companions
ٱلۡقَرۡيَةِ
(of) the city
إِذۡ
when
جَآءَهَا
came to it
ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ
the Messengers

Translation

And present to them an example: the people of the city, when the messengers came to it -

Tafsir

And strike for them as a similitude (mathalan is the first direct object) the inhabitants (ashaaba is the second direct object) of the town, [of] Antioch (Antaakya), when the messengers, namely, Jesus's disciples, came to it (idh jaa'ahaa'l-mursaloona is an inclusive substitution for ashaaba'l-qaryati, 'the inhabitants of the town').
