Whatever Allāh grants to people of mercy - none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds - none can release it thereafter. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.
Whatever mercy God unfolds for mankind, in the way of provision or rain, none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds, thereof, none can release it after Him, that is, after His withholding it. And He is the Mighty, Whose way prevails, the Wise, in what He does.
Tafsir of Surah Fatir
The Power of Allah
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ فَاطِرِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالاَْرْضِ
All praise is due to Allah, Fatir of the heavens and the earth,
Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, said,
I did not know whatFatir As-Samawati wal-Ard meant until two Bedouins came to me disputing over a well. One of them said to his companion, `Ana Fatartuha,' meaning, `I started it.'
Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, also said,
فَاطِرِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالاْاَرْضِ
(Fatir of the heavens and the earth) means,
The Originator of the heavens and the earth.
Ad-Dahhak said,
Every time the phrase Fatir As-Samawati wal-Ard is used in the Qur'an, it means the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
جَاعِلِ الْمَلَايِكَةِ رُسُلًا
Who made the angels messengers,
means, between Him and His Prophets.
أُولِي أَجْنِحَةٍ
with wings,
means, with which they fly to convey quickly that which they have been commanded to convey.
مَّثْنَى وَثُلَثَ وَرُبَاعَ
two or three or four,
means, among them are some who have two wings, some have three and some who have four.
Some have more than that, as stated in the Hadith mentioning that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ Jibril, peace be upon him, on the Night of the Isra with six hundred wings. Between each pair of wings was a distance like that between the east and the west.
Allah says:
يَزِيدُ فِي الْخَلْقِ مَا يَشَاء إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
He increases in creation what He wills. Verily, Allah is Able to do all things.
As-Suddi said,
He increases their wings and creates them as He wills.
None can withhold the Mercy of Allah
Allah tells,
مَا يَفْتَحِ اللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحْمَةٍ فَلَا مُمْسِكَ لَهَا وَمَا يُمْسِكْ فَلَا مُرْسِلَ لَهُ مِن بَعْدِهِ
وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ
Whatever of mercy, Allah may grant to mankind, none can withhold it; and whatever He may withhold, none can grant it thereafter. And He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
Allah tells us that what He wills, happens, and what He does not will, does not happen. None can give what He withholds, and none can withhold what He gives.
Imam Ahmad recorded that Warrad, the freed slave of Al-Mughirah bin Shu`bah, said,
Mu`awiyah wrote to Al-Mughirah bin Shu`bah, saying, `Write for me what you heard from the Messenger of Allah.' So Al-Mughirah called me and I wrote for him:
`I heard the Messenger of Allah say when he finished praying,
لَاا إِلهَ إِلاَّ اللهُ وَحْدَهُ لَاا شَرِيكَ لَهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ وَهُوَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
اللْهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَد
There is no god (worthy of worship) except Allah alone, with no partner or associate. To Him be praise and dominion, and He is able to do all things.
O Allah, there is none who can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and good fortune and richness in anything cannot benefit one against Your will.
`And I heard him forbid gossiping, asking too many questions and wasting money, burying girls alive, disobeying one's mother, and withholding from others while asking from them.'
This was also recorded by Al-Bukhari and Muslim, with several chain of narration.
It was recorded in Sahih Muslim that Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, said,
When the Messenger of Allah raised his head from bowing, he would say:
سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ
اللْهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ مِلْءُ السَّمَاءِ وَالاَْرْضِ وَمِلْءُ مَا شِيْتَ مِنْ شَيْءٍ بَعْدُ
اللْهُمَّ أَهْلَ الثَّنَاءِ وَالْمَجْدِ أَحَقُّ مَا قَالَ الْعَبْدُ وَكُلُّنَا لَكَ عَبْدٌ
اللْهُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْكَ الْجَد
Allah hears those who praise Him.
O Allah, our Lord, to You be praise, filling the heavens and the earth, and filling whatever You wish besides.
O Allah, the One deserving praise and glory. The truest words that any servant says -- and all of us are Your servants -- are:
O Allah, there is none who can withhold what You give, and none can give what You withhold, and no wealth or majesty can benefit anyone against Your will.
This Ayah is like the Ayah:
وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ اللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَ كَاشِفَ لَهُ إِلاَّ هُوَ وَإِن يُرِدْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَلَ رَادَّ لِفَضْلِهِ
And if Allah touches you with harm, there is none who can remove it but He; and if He intends any good for you, there is none who can repel His favor. (10:107)

The Evidence of Tawhid
Allah says,
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ هَلْ مِنْ خَالِقٍ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ السَّمَاء وَالاْاَرْضِ
O mankind! Remember the grace of Allah upon you! Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the sky (rain) and the earth!
Allah shows His servants that they should worship Him Alone, for just as He is Independent in His power of creation and provision, so He should be worshipped Alone with no partners or associates such as idols and false gods.
So Allah says:
لَاا إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ فَأَنَّى تُوْفَكُونَ
La ilaha illa Huwa. How then are you turning away (from Him)!
meaning, `how can you turn away from Him after this has been made clear and this proof has been made obvious, but you still worship idols and false gods.'
And Allah knows best
Consolation in the fact that the previous Messengers were denied, and a reminder of the Resurrection
Allah says:
وَإِن يُكَذِّبُوكَ فَقَدْ كُذِّبَتْ رُسُلٌ مِّن قَبْلِكَ
And if they deny you, so were Messengers denied before you.
Allah says:`Even if these idolators who associate others with Allah disbelieve in you, O Muhammad, and go against the Message of Tawhid that you have brought, you have an example in the Messengers who came before you.'
They also brought a clear Message to their people and told them to worship Allah alone, but their people denied them and went against them.
وَإِلَى اللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ الامُورُ
And to Allah return all matters (for decision).
means, `We will requite them for that in full.'
Then Allah says
يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ حَقٌّ
O mankind!
Verily, the promise of Allah is true.
meaning the Resurrection will undoubtedly come to pass.
فَلَ تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا
So, let not this present life deceive you,
means, `this life is as nothing in compare to the great good that Allah has promised to His close friends and the followers of His Messengers, so do not let these transient attractions distract you from that which is lasting.'
وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُم بِاللَّهِ الْغَرُورُ
and let not the chief deceiver deceive you about Allah.
This refers to Shaytan, as stated by Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him.
Meaning, do not let the Shaytan tempt you and divert you away from following the Messengers of Allah and believing what they say, for he is the chief deceiver and arch-liar.
This Ayah is like the Ayah that appears at the end of Surah Luqman:
فَلَ تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ الْحَيَوةُ الدُّنْيَا وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُم بِاللَّهِ الْغَرُورُ
let not then this (worldly) present life deceive you, nor let the chief deceiver deceive you about Allah. (31:33)
Then Allah tells us of the enmity of Iblis towards the sons of Adam
إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ فَاتَّخِذُوهُ عَدُوًّا
Surely, Shaytan is an enemy to you, so take (treat) him as an enemy.
meaning, `he has declared his enmity towards you, so be even more hostile towards him, oppose him and do not believe the things with which he tries to tempt you.'
إِنَّمَا يَدْعُو حِزْبَهُ لِيَكُونُوا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ
He only invites his followers that they may become the dwellers of the blazing Fire.
means, `he only wants to misguide you so that you will enter the blazing Fire with him.'
This is a manifest enemy, and we ask Allah, the All-Powerful and Almighty to make us enemies of Shaytan and to make us followers of the Book of Allah and of the way of His Messengers. For He is able to do whatever He wills and He will respond to all supplication.
This is like the Ayah:
وَإِذَا قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـيِكَةِ اسْجُدُواْ لاِدَمَ فَسَجَدُواْ إِلاَّ إِبْلِيسَ كَانَ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَفَسَقَ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِ أَفَتَتَّخِذُونَهُ وَذُرِّيَّتَهُ أَوْلِيَأءَ مِن دُونِى وَهُمْ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ بِيْسَ لِلظَّـلِمِينَ بَدَلاً
And (remember) when We said to the angels:Prostrate yourselves unto Adam.
So they prostrated themselves except Iblis.
He was one of the Jinn; he disobeyed the command of his Lord. Will you then take him (Iblis) and his offspring as protectors and helpers rather than Me while they are enemies to you? What an evil is the exchange for the wrongdoers. (18:50
The Punishment of the Disbeliever and the Reward of the Believer on the Day of Resurrection
Allah says,
الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ
Those who disbelieve, theirs will be a severe torment;
Having stated that the ultimate destiny of the followers of Iblis will be the blazing Fire, Allah then tells us that for those who disbelieve there will be a severe punishment. This is because they obeyed the Shaytan and disobeyed Ar-Rahman.
وَالَّذِينَ امَنُوا
and those who believe
And He tells us that those who believed in Allah and His Messengers
وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ
and do righteous good deeds, theirs will be forgiveness,
meaning, from whatever sins they did,
وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ
and a great reward. for the good deeds that they did.
Then Allah says
أَفَمَن زُيِّنَ لَهُ سُوءُ عَمَلِهِ فَرَاهُ حَسَنًا
Is he, then, to whom the evil of his deeds is made fair seeming, so that he considers it as good!
meaning, `such as disbelievers or immoral persons who do evil deeds and believe that they are doing something good, i.e., a person who is like that has been misguided by Allah, so what can you do for him? You cannot help him at all.'
فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَاء وَيَهْدِي مَن يَشَاء
Verily, Allah sends astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills.
means according to His decree.
فَلَ تَذْهَبْ نَفْسُكَ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسَرَاتٍ
So destroy not yourself in sorrow for them.
means, do not grieve about that, for Allah is Wise in His decree and He leaves astray whomsoever He leaves astray, and He guides whomsoever He guides, and in doing so He has perfect knowledge and wisdom.
Allah says:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ
Truly, Allah is the All-Knower of what they do!

The word: رَّحْمَةٍ (rahmah: mercy) appearing in verse 2: مَّا يَفْتَحِ اللَّـهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحْمَةٍ فَلَا مُمْسِكَ لَهَا (Whatever blessing Allah opens for the people, there is none to hold it back,) is general at this place. It includes blessings of one's religion in this world along with those of the Hereafter, such as, faith, knowledge, rightly guided conduct as well as the mission of a prophet and the station of a Waliyy or man of Allah. And it also includes material blessings in the present world, such as, provisions, means, comfort, health, wealth, property, recognition and things like that. The meaning of the verse is quite obvious. It is being said here that the person for whom Allah Ta’ ala intends to open the doors of His mercy, there is no one who can stop it.
Similarly, the second sentence: وَمَا يُمْسِكْ (wa ma yumsik: there is none to hold it back) is general, meaning: what Allah Ta’ ala holds back cannot he released by anyone. This includes hardships and sorrows of the world. Y or example, when Allah intends to shield some servant of His from these, then, there is no one who can dare harass or harm him. And included here is the matter of mercy as well in the sense that, should Allah Ta’ ala decide to deprive a person of His mercy due to some wise consideration of His, then, there is no one who can dare pass it on to him. (Abu Hayyan) Related to this very subject of the verse, there is a Hadith that reports that Sayyidna Mu'awiyah ؓ wrote to Sayyidna Mughirah Ibn Shu'abah ؓ ، his governor at Kufah, asking him to send back to him in writing some Hadith he had personally heard from the Holy Prophet ﷺ . Sayyidna Mughirah ؓ called Rawwad, his chief scribe, in his office and dictated his report as: 'I heard from the Holy Prophet ﷺ ", soon after he finished his salah his recitation of the words: اَللَّھُمَّ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا اَعطَیتَ وَ لَا مُعطیَ لِمَا مَنَعتَ وَ لَا یَنفَعُ ذَا الجَدِّ مِنکَ الجَدُّ (0 Allah, for that which You give, there is no one to stop, and for that which you hold back, there is no one to give it out, and no efforts by any maker of effort1 works against Your will' ). (Ibn Kathir from Musnad of Ahmad)
And according to a narration of Sayyidna Abu Said al-Khudri ؓ عنہ in Sahih of Muslim, he said these words at the time he raised his head from the (bending) position of ruku' before another sentence: اَحَقُ مَا قَالَ العَبدُ وَ کُلُّنا لَکَ (that is, these words, out of all that a servant of Allah can say, are the most true, incumbent and superior).
Trust in Allah delivers from all hardships
The lesson taught by the cited verse (2) to all human beings is that one should not hope any benefit or fear any harm from anyone other than Allah, instead, one should keep his or her sight trained towards Allah alone. This is the master prescription for a better life in this world as well as in the life to come. This simple antidote delivers one from thousands of anxieties and sorrows. (Ruh-ul-Ma’ ani)
Sayyidna ` Amir Ibn ` Abd Qays ؓ said: Once I get to recite four verses of the noble Qur'an in the morning, I stop worrying about what would happen in the morning and what would happen in the evening. These verses are as follows. The first one is this very verse under study: مَّا يَفْتَحِ اللَّـهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحْمَةٍ فَلَا مُمْسِكَ لَهَا وَمَا يُمْسِكْ فَلَا مُرْسِلَ لَهُ مِن بَعْدِهِ (Whatever blessing Allah opens for the people, there is none to hold it back, and whatever He holds back, there is none to release it thereafter - 35:2). The second verse having the same sense appears in Surah al-An'am, 6:17: وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ اللَّـهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُ إِلَّا هُوَ وَإِن يُرِدْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَلَا رَادَّ لِفَضْلِهِ (And if Allah causes you some harm, no one is there to remove it except He Himself; and if He causes you some good, then He is powerful over everything - 6:17). The third verse is from Surah At-Talaq, 65:7: سَيَجْعَلُ اللَّـهُ بَعْدَ عُسْرٍ يُسْرًا (Allah will soon bring ease after a difficulty). The fourth verse is from Surah Hud, 11:6: وَمَا مِن دَابَّةٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّـهِ رِزْقُهَا (And there is no creature on earth whose sustenance is not on Allah - 11:6). (Narrated by Ibn al-Mundhir, as in Ruh ul-Ma'ani)
And when Sayyidna Abu Hurairah ؓ ﷺ rain falling, he used to say: مُطِرنَا بنوء الفَتحِ (The rain has come upon us through the rise of fath: (the opening) and would, then, recite the verse: مَّا يَفْتَحِ اللَّـهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحْمَةٍ (Whatever blessing Allah opens for the people, there is none to hold it back,- 34:2). This term of 'rise of fath' used by him was in rebuttal of the false notion prevailing among Arabs of those days who used to attribute the coming of rains to the rise of particular stars and said that the rains had come upon them through the rise of such and such star. Sayyidna Abu Hurairah ؓ countered it by saying that (the mercy of) rains came to him through (the statement in) the verse of fath or opening. By this, he meant this very verse quoted above. He used to recite it particularly on such occasions. (Reported by Imam Malik in al-Mu'watta)

Tafsir Surat Fathir: 2
Apa saja yang Allah anugerahkan kepada manusia berupa rahmat, maka tidak ada seorang pun yang dapat menahannya; dan apa saja yang ditahan oleh Allah, maka tidak seorang pun yang sanggup untuk melepaskannya sesudah itu. Dan Dialah Yang Maha Perkasa lagi Maha Bijaksana.
Allah ﷻ menyebutkan bahwa apa saja yang dikehendaki-Nya pasti ada, dan apa saja yang tidak dikehendaki-Nya pasti tidak ada. Tiada seorang pun yang dapat mencegah apa yang Dia berikan, dan tiada seorang pun yang dapat memberi apa yang Dia cegah.
Imam Ahmad mengatakan, telah menceritakan kepada kami Ali ibnu Asim, telah menceritakan kepada kami Mugirah, telah menceritakan kepada kami Amir, dari Warid maula Al-Mugirah ibnu Syu'bah yang mengatakan, bahwa sesungguhnya Mu'awiyah pernah berkirim surat kepada Al-Mugirah ibnu Syu'bah r.a. yang isinya menyebutkan, "Tuliskanlah buatku apa yang pernah engkau dengar dari Rasulullah ﷺ. Maka Al-Mugirah berdoa untukku, lalu aku berkirim surat dengan menuliskan, "Sesungguhnya aku pernah mendengar Rasulullah ﷺ apabila telah selesai dari salat mengucapkan doa berikut: 'Tidak ada Tuhan selain Allah semata, tiada sekutu bagi-Nya, bagi-Nya Kerajaan dan bagi-Nya segala puji, dan Dia Maha Kuasa atas segala sesuatu. Ya Allah, tiada seorang pun yang dapat mencegah apa yang Engkau berikan, dan tiada seorang pun yang dapat memberi terhadap apa yang Engkau cegah, dan tiada seorang pun yang dapat memberikan suatu manfaat tanpa seizin dari-Mu betapapun besarnya dia.' Dan aku pernah mendengar beliau ﷺ melarang banyak bicara, banyak bertanya, menghambur-hamburkan harta, mengubur anak perempuan hidup-hidup, menyakiti ibu, bersifat kikir, serta suka meminta-minta.”
Imam Bukhari dan Imam Muslim mengetengahkan hadis ini melalui berbagai jalur dari orang yang menyampaikannya.
Disebutkan pula di dalam kitab Sahih Muslim melalui Abu Said Al-Khudri r.a. yang mengatakan bahwa sesungguhnya Rasulullah ﷺ apabila mengangkat kepalanya dari rukuk mengucapkan doa berikut: “Allah Maha Mendengar terhadap orang yang memuji-Nya, Ya Allah, Tuhan kami, bagiMu-lah segala puji sepenuh langit dan bumi dan sepenuh apa yang Engkau kehendaki dari sesuatu sesudahnya. Ya Allah, Pemilik segala pujian dan keagungan, sebagai perkataan yang paling berhak diucapkan oleh seorang hamba, dan kami semua adalah hamba-Mu. Ya Allah, tiada seorang pun yang dapat mencegah apa yang Engkau berikan, dan tiada seorang pun yang dapat memberi apa yang Engkau cegah, dan tidak dapat memberi manfaat apa pun keagungan seseorang di hadapan keagungan-Mu.”
Ayat ini semakna dengan apa yang disebutkan oleh firman-Nya dalam ayat lain, yaitu: “Jika Allah menimpakan suatu kemudaratan kepadamu, maka tidak ada yang menghilangkannya melainkan Dia sendiri. Dan jika Dia mendatangkan kebaikan kepadamu, maka Dia Maha Kuasa atas tiap-tiap sesuatu.” (Al-An'am: 17) Ayat yang semakna masih banyak.
Imam Malik rahimahullah mengatakan bahwa Abu Hurairah r.a. pernah mengatakan bahwa dahulu apabila diberi hujan, mereka mengatakan, “Kita diberi hujan oleh bintang Fat-h (yakni munculnya bintang itu sebelumnya)," lalu Abu Hurairah membacakan firman-Nya: “Apa saja yang Allah anugerahkan kepada manusia berupa rahmat, maka tidak ada seorang pun yang dapat menahannya; dan apa saja yang ditahan oleh Allah, maka tidak seorang pun yang sanggup untuk melepaskannya sesudah itu. Dan Dialah Yang Maha Perkasa lagi Maha Bijaksana.” (Fathir: 2).
Diriwayatkan pula oleh Ibnu Abu Hatim dari Yunus, dari Ibnu Wahb, dari Abu Hurairah r.a.
Apa saja di antara rahmat Allah, seperti kesehatan, rezeki, ilmu, dan lainnya, yang dianugerahkan kepada manusia, maka tidak ada yang dapat menahannya; dan apa saja yang ditahan-Nya maka tidak ada yang sanggup untuk melepaskannya setelah itu. Dan Dialah Yang Mahaperkasa untuk berbuat sesuai kehendak-Nya, Mahabijaksana dalam setiap ketetapan-Nya. 3. Limpahan rahmat yang demikian besar harus menjadi pendorong bagi manusia untuk bersyukur. Wahai manusia! Ingatlah akan nikmat Allah yang dilimpahkan kepadamu. Bersyukurlah dengan menaati perintah-Nya dan tidak mendurhakai-Nya. Adakah pencipta selain Allah yang dapat memberikan rezeki kepadamu dari langit dan bumi' Tentu tidak ada. Tidak ada tuhan yang berhak disembah selain Dia; maka mengapa kamu bisa berpaling dari tauhid'.
Pada ayat ini, Allah menerangkan bahwa pemberian atau penahanan suatu rahmat termasuk dalam kekuasaan-Nya. Apabila Dia menganugerahkan suatu rahmat kepada manusia, tidak seorang pun dapat menahan dan menghalangi-Nya. Begitu pula sebaliknya, apabila Dia menahan dan menutup sesuatu rahmat dan belum diberikan kepada siapa yang dikehendaki-Nya, maka tiada seorang pun bisa membuka dan memberikannya, karena semua urusan di tangan-Nya. Dia Maha Perkasa berbuat menurut kehendak dan kebijaksanaan-Nya. Oleh karena itu, kita harus selalu menghadap Allah melalui ibadah untuk mencapai cita-cita kita, dan senantiasa dengan bertawakal kepada-Nya, begitu pula di dalam usaha mencapai tujuan dan maksud yang diridai-Nya. Sejalan dengan ini, Allah berfirman:
Dan jika Allah menimpakan suatu bencana kepadamu, maka tidak ada yang dapat menghilangkannya kecuali Dia. Dan jika Allah menghendaki kebaikan bagi kamu, maka tidak ada yang dapat menolak karunia-Nya. (Yunus/10: 107)
Dan dalam sebuah hadis disebutkan sebagai berikut:
Dari al-Mugirah bin Syu'bah bahwa ia berkata, "Saya mendengar Rasulullah ﷺ apabila selesai salat mengucapkan, 'Tiada tuhan melainkan Allah. Dia Esa tiada ada sekutu bagi-Nya. Bagi-Nya kerajaan dan bagi-Nya segala puji. Dia kuasa atas segala sesuatu. Ya Allah Tuhanku, tidak ada seorang pencegah pun terhadap sesuatu yang Engkau berikan dan tak ada seorang pemberi terhadap sesuatu yang Engkau cegah, tidak bermanfaat kejayaan seseorang dalam menghadapi siksaan Engkau." (Riwayat Ahmad, al-Bukhari dan Muslim).

(AYAT 1-45)
Bismillahirrahmanirrahim
“Segala puji-pujian bagi Allah."
(pangkal ayat 1)
“Pencipta semua langit dan bumi," Arti yang terkandung di dalam nama dan sifat Allah yang disebut Faathir sangat berdekatan dengan nama dan sifat Allah yang disebut Khaliq. Namun kalau kita halusi sedikit lagi, di dalam kata Khaliq terkandung bentuk atau membentuk, membayangkan bahwa segala yang diciptakan oleh Allah itu adalah membawa bentuknya sendiri. Sedang di dalam kata Faathir lebih meluas lagi dan mencakup bagi kesemuanya, dengan arti memulai. Menurut Ibnu Abbas arti Faathir ialah yang memulai. Dia (Ibnu Abbas) mengatakan bahwa mulanya dia belum paham arti Faathir. Tetapi suatu hari didengarnya dua orang Arab dusun (A'rabi) bertengkar perkara menggali sumur. Yang seorang berkata: Ana fathartuha yang berarti, “Saya yang memulainya." Mungkin kalimat kata Indonesia yang agak sesuai dengan Faathir ialah Pembuat Tetapi oleh karena kata-kata Pembuat sudah banyak terpakai untuk manusia biasa, menjadi agak ringan dia kalau kita artikan dengan itu.
“Yang menjadikan malaikat-malaikat jadi utusan-utusan, yang mempunyai sayap-sayap, dua-dua, tiga-tiga, dan empat-empat." Di samping menciptakan semua langit dan bumi Allah pun menjadikan malaikat-malaikat, yaitu makhluk halus yang terjadi dari Nur belaka, tidak laki-laki dan tidak perempuan. Tugas dari malaikat itu dijelaskan dalam ayat ini yaitu menjadi utusan-utusan dari Allah. Artinya menjalankan perintah yang ditentukan oleh Allah buat masing-masingnya. Dan dijelaskan di sini bahwa malaikat-malaikat itu mem-punyai sayap. Ada yang sayapnya dua-dua, ada yang tiga-tiga dan ada yang empat-empat. ‘Via menambahkan pada yang Dia ciptakan apa yang Dia kehendaki." Maksud lanjutan ayat ini ialah sayap malaikat-malaikat itu selain dua-dua, tiga-tiga dan empat-empat ada lagi yang lebih. Lebihnya itu ialah menurut hendak Allah sendiri, bahkan dalam sebuah hadits yang dirawikan oleh Bukhari dan Muslim dari Abdullah bin Mas'ud, Nabi ﷺ mengatakan bahwa Malaikat Jibril itu mempunyai enam ratus sayap.
“Sesungguhnya Allah itu atas tiap-tiap sesuatu adalah Mahakuasa."

Maka bukanlah Allah semata-mata mencipta, atau Khaliq dan bukan semata-mata memulai atau Faathir sebagaimana dijelaskan di pangkal ayat ini, tetapi adalah Dia selalu Mengatur dan selalu Menguasai, dan tidak ada satu kekuasaan lain pun yang dapat mencam-puri, karena tidaklah ada sesuatu pun yang berkuasa, selain Allah.
“Apa saja yang dibukakan Allah untuk manusia dari bermacam rahmat, maka tidaklah satu jua pun penahannya. Dan apa yang Dia tahan, maka tidaklah satu jua pun melepaskannya dari sesudahnya."

Setelah pada ayat yang pertama Allah menjelaskan, bahwa Dialah Pencipta semua langit dan bumi, mengutus malaikat yang bersayap dua-dua, tiga-tiga, dan empat-empat, bahkan ada yang lebih, sehingga Nabi pernah melihat Jibril dengan enam ratus sayap, orang yang berpikir tenang dan mendalam akan me-rasakanlah bagaimana alam itu teratur, bahwa Allah bukan semata-mata hanya Mencipta, bahkan Allah pun adalah Pemelihara, Pendidik, Pengasuh. Dia adalah llah, yaitu kalimat yang dibahasakan untuk Allah ﷻ sebagai Pen-cipta. Dan Dia adalah pula Rabbun, yaitu kalimat yang dipakai untuk menyebut Allah ﷻ sebagai Pengatur, Pengasuh, Pemelihara, dan Pendidik. Bertambah mendalam kita me-renung, akan terasalah bahwasanya di segala sesuatunya itu tampak kasih sayang Ilahi me-liputi semuanya.
Kemudian di penutup ayat, Allah ﷻ berfirman,
“Dan Dia adalah Mahapetkasa, Maha bijaksana."

Sesampai di ujung ayat ini, yang menyebutkan dua sifat Allah dan nama-Nya yang mulia, Perkasa dan Bijaksana diberilah tuntunan kepada jiwa kita, agar perkasa menghadapi hidup ini, jangan cengeng, dan pandang indahnya dan baiknya dan hadapi segala kesukaran dengan bijaksana, (angan tergesa mengeluh jika ada sesuatu yang musykil. Karena kalau sudah dikaji lebih mendalam rahmat Allah jualah yang meliputi hidup kita ini.
“Wahai sekalian manusia! Ingatlah olehmu nikmat Allah ke atas kamu “

Sebelum ayat ini ditafsirkan seterusnya, lebih dahulu patutlah kita ketahui perbedaan arti di antara rahmat dengan nikmat. Di ayat yang terdahulu disebutkan rahmat dan di ayat ini disebut nikmat. Rahmat artinya kasih sayang. Nikmat artinya karunia atau anugerah. Kalau diukur kepada kita manusia, kasih sayang mengenai perasaan. Nikmat mengenai barang yang dapat ditunjukkan. Dalam ayat ini manusia disuruh mengingat bagaimana besarnya nikmat Allah kepada kita manusia. Nikmat itu diberikan Ilahi disertai dengan kasih sayang. Nikmat itu ada dalam diri kita sendiri dan ada di luar diri kita, tetapi berhubungan langsung dengan kita.
Maka banyaklah nikmat Allah tidak diingat ketika dia masih ada, dan mengeluh kalau dia tidak ada lagi. Sebab itu maka ayat ini merekankan seruan kepada manusia, ingatlah nikmat itu sedang adanya dan syukurilah. “Yang memberi rezeki kepada kamu dari langit dan bumi." Rezeki adalah seluruh anugerah Ilahi untuk perbelanjaan hidup kita. Maka sekali-kali tidaklah ada Tuhan yang lain yang memberikan rezeki itu, kecuali Allah ﷻ Rezeki yang turun dari langit dengan turunnya hujan. Rezeki yang tumbuh di bumi untuk makanan, pakaian dan segenap persediaan hidup. “Tidak ada Tuhan selain Dia." Yang menurunkan hujan, yang menyuburkan bumi, yang memberimu mata dapat melihat, telinga dapat mendengar dan memberimu segala keperluan hidup tidak ada yang lain, selain Allah.
“Gerangan apa sebabnya kamu masih dapat dibohongi?"

Mengapa kamu masih saja menyembah kepada yang selain Allah? Kepada berhala atau kepada benda yang lain? Padahal kalau kamu ingat benar-benar dan renungkan, kamu pasti mengakui bahwa tidak ada selain Allah yang memberi kamu nikmat, tidak ada yang memberi kamu rezeki? Apalah artinya berhala-berhala yang kamu buat dengan tangan kamu sendiri, kemudian kamu katakan bahwa buah tangan kamu itu yang menguasai kamu? Alangkah bodohnya kamu, karena mau saja dibohongi dengan persembahan yang tidak-tidak.
(Apa saja yang Allah anugerahkan kepada manusia berupa rahmat) seperti rezeki dan hujan (maka tidak ada seorang pun yang dapat menahannya; dan apa saja yang ditahan oleh Allah) dari hal-hal tersebut (maka tidak seorang pun yang sanggup untuk melepaskannya sesudah itu) sesudah Allah menahannya. (Dan Dialah Yang Maha Perkasa) Maha Menang atas perkara-Nya (lagi Maha Bijaksana) dalam perbuatan-Nya.
