فَلَمَّا
But when
جَآءَهُم
came to them
مُّوسَىٰ
Musa
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا
with Our Signs
بَيِّنَٰتٖ
clear
قَالُواْ
they said
مَا
Not
هَٰذَآ
(is) this
إِلَّا
except
سِحۡرٞ
a magic
مُّفۡتَرٗى
invented
وَمَا
and not
سَمِعۡنَا
we heard
بِهَٰذَا
of this
فِيٓ
among
ءَابَآئِنَا
our forefathers
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
our forefathers
فَلَمَّا
But when
جَآءَهُم
came to them
مُّوسَىٰ
Musa
بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا
with Our Signs
بَيِّنَٰتٖ

قَالُواْ
they said
مَا
Not
هَٰذَآ
(is) this

مُّفۡتَرٗى
invented
وَمَا
and not
سَمِعۡنَا
we heard
بِهَٰذَا
of this
فِيٓ
among
ءَابَآئِنَا
our forefathers
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
our forefathers

Translation

When Moses came to them with Our clear signs, they said: "This is nothing but sorcery faked up: never did we head the like among our fathers of old!"

Tafsir

But when Moses brought them Our clear signs (bayyinaatin, a circumstantial qualifier) they said, 'This is nothing but concocted, invented, sorcery. And we never heard of such [a thing], to have [ever] existed, in, the days of, our forefathers'.
