  • مُّوسَىٰ Musa
  • بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا with Our Signs
  • بَيِّنَٰتٖ clear
  • قَالُواْ they said
  • مَا Not
  • هَٰذَآ (is) this
  • إِلَّا except
  • سِحۡرٞ a magic
  • مُّفۡتَرٗى invented
  • وَمَا and not
  • سَمِعۡنَا we heard
  • بِهَٰذَا of this
  • فِيٓ among
  • ءَابَآئِنَا our forefathers
  • ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ our forefathers
But when Moses came to them with Our signs as clear evidences, they said, "This is not except invented magic, and we have not heard of this [religion] among our forefathers."
But when Moses brought them Our clear signs (bayyinaatin, a circumstantial qualifier) they said, 'This is nothing but concocted, invented, sorcery. And we never heard of such [a thing], to have [ever] existed, in, the days of, our forefathers'.
