ٱلۡمُلُوكَ

إِذَا

دَخَلُواْ

قَرۡيَةً
a town
أَفۡسَدُوهَا
they ruin it
وَجَعَلُوٓاْ
and make
أَعِزَّةَ
(the) most honorable
أَهۡلِهَآ
(of) its people
أَذِلَّةٗۚ
(the) lowest
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
يَفۡعَلُونَ
they do
قَالَتۡ
She said
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلۡمُلُوكَ

they ruin it
وَجَعَلُوٓاْ

And thus
يَفۡعَلُونَ
they do

Translation

She said: "Kings, when they enter a country, despoil it, and make the noblest of its people its meanest thus do they behave.

Tafsir

She said, 'Indeed kings, when they enter a town, ruin it, with destruction, and reduce the mightiest of its inhabitants to the most abased. That is what they too will do, namely, the senders of this letter.
