فَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ
Then We inspired
إِلَىٰ
to
مُوسَىٰٓ
Musa
أَنِ
[that]
ٱضۡرِب
Strike
بِّعَصَاكَ
with your staff
ٱلۡبَحۡرَۖ
the sea
فَٱنفَلَقَ
So it parted
فَكَانَ
and became
كُلُّ
each
فِرۡقٖ
part
كَٱلطَّوۡدِ
like the mountain
ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
[the] great
فَأَوۡحَيۡنَآ
Then We inspired
إِلَىٰ
to
مُوسَىٰٓ
Musa
أَنِ
[that]
ٱضۡرِب

بِّعَصَاكَ
with your staff
ٱلۡبَحۡرَۖ
the sea
فَٱنفَلَقَ
So it parted
فَكَانَ
and became
كُلُّ

فِرۡقٖ
part
كَٱلطَّوۡدِ
like the mountain
ٱلۡعَظِيمِ
[the] great

Translation

Then We told Moses by inspiration: "Strike the sea with thy rod." So it divided, and each separate part became like the huge, firm mass of a mountain.

Tafsir

God, exalted be He, says: Thereupon We revealed to Moses: 'Strike the sea with your staff', and he struck it, whereupon it parted, it split into twelve parts, and each part was as a mighty mountain, between each of these parts were paths which they followed, such that not even the saddles or the felts of the riders were touched by water.
