ٱلْمُؤْمِنُون ١
- قَدۡ Indeed
- أَفۡلَحَ successful
- ٱلۡمُؤۡمِنُونَ (are) the believers
Certainly will the believers have succeeded:
Al-Mu'minoon (the Believers)
Meccan: it consists of 118 or 119 verses, revealed after [soorat] al-Anbiyaa'.
Indeed (qad is for confirmation) prosperous, victorious, are the believers,
Tafsir of Surah Al-Muminoon
The Success is for the believers whose qualities are described here
Allah says:
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُوْمِنُونَ
Successful indeed are the believers,
means, they have attained victory and are blessed, for they have succeeded. These are the believers who have the following characteristics:
الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلَتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَ
Those who with their Salah are Khashi`un.
Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn Abbas said:

خَاشِعُونَ
Khashi`un) means those with fear and with tranquility.
This was also narrated from Mujahid, Al-Hasan, Qatadah and Az-Zuhri.
It was reported from Ali bin Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, that;
Khushu` means the Khushu` of the heart.
This was also the view of Ibrahim An-Nakha`i.
Al-Hasan Al-Basri said,
Their Khushu` was in their hearts.
So they lowered their gaze and were humble towards others.
Khushu` in prayer is only attained by the one who has emptied his heart totally, who does not pay attention to anything else besides it, and who prefers it above all else. At that point it becomes a delight and a joy for eyes, as in the Hadith recorded by Imam Ahmad and An-Nasa'i from Anas, who said that the Messenger of Allah said:
حُبِّبَ إِلَيَّ الطِّيبُ وَالنِّسَاءُ وَجُعِلَتْ قُرَّةُ عَيْنِي فِي الصَّلَة
Fragrance and women have been made dear to me, and Salah was made the joy of my eye.
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ اللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ
And those who turn away from Al-Laghw.
refers to falsehood, which includes Shirk and sin, and any words or deeds that are of no benefit.
As Allah says:
وَإِذَا مَرُّواْ بِاللَّغْوِ مَرُّواْ كِراماً
And if they pass by Al-Laghw, they pass by it with dignity. (25:72)
Qatadah said:
By Allah, there came to them from Allah that which kept them away from that (evil).
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَاةِ فَاعِلُونَ
And those who pay the Zakah.
Most commentators say that the meaning here is the Zakah that is paid on wealth, even though this Ayah was revealed in Makkah, and Zakah was ordained in Al-Madinah in the year 2 H.
The apparent meaning is that the Zakah that was instituted in Al-Madinah is the one based upon the Nusub and the specific amounts, apart from which it seems that the basic principle of Zakah was enjoined in Makkah. As Allah says in Surah Al-An`am, which was also revealed in Makkah:
وَءَاتُواْ حَقَّهُ يَوْمَ حَصَادِهِ
but pay the due thereof on the day of their harvest, (6:141)
It could be that what is meant here by Zakah is purification of the soul from Shirk and filth, as in the Ayah:
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّـهَا
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّـهَا
Indeed he succeeds who purifies himself (Zakkaha). And indeed he fails who corrupts himself. (91:9-10)
It could be that both meanings are intended, purification of the soul and of one's wealth, because that is part of the purification of the soul, and the true believer is one who pays attention to both matters.
And Allah knows best.
And Allah says;
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ
إِلاَّ عَلَى أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
فَمَنِ ابْتَغَى وَرَاء ذَلِكَ فَأُوْلَيِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ
And those who guard their private parts. Except from their wives and their right hand possessions, for then, they are free from blame. But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors.
means, those who protect their private parts from unlawful actions and do not do that which Allah has forbidden; fornication and homosexuality, and do not approach anyone except the wives whom Allah has made permissible for them or their right hand possessions from the captives. One who seeks what Allah has made permissible for him is not to be blamed and there is no sin on him.
Allah says:
فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ
فَمَنِ ابْتَغَى وَرَاء ذَلِكَ
they are free from blame. But whoever seeks beyond that, meaning, other than a wife or slave girl,
فَأُوْلَيِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ
then those are the transgressors.
meaning, aggressors.
Allah says:
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لاِاَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ
Those who are faithfully true to their Amanat and to their covenants,
When they are entrusted with something, they do not betray that trust, but they fulfill it, and when they make a promise or make a pledge, they are true to their word.
This is not like the hypocrites about whom the Messenger of Allah said:
ايَةُ الْمُنَافِقِ ثَلَثٌ
إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ
وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ
وَإِذَا اوْتُمِنَ خَان
The signs of the hypocrite are three:
when he speaks he lies,
when he makes a promise he breaks it, and
when he is entrusted with something he betrays that trust.
وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَى صَلَوَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ
And those who strictly guard their Salawat.
means, they persistently offer their prayers at their appointed times,
Ibn Mas`ud said:
I asked the Messenger of Allah, `O Messenger of Allah, which deed is most beloved to Allah!'
He said,
الصَّلَةُ عَلَى وَقْتِهَا
Prayer at the appointed time.
I said, `Then what!'
He said,
بِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْن
Kindness to one's parents.
I said, `Then what!'
He said,
الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ الله
Jihad in the way of Allah.
It was recorded in the Two Sahihs.
Qatadah said:
At the fixed times, with the proper bowing and prostration.
Allah begins and ends this list of praiseworthy qualities with Salah, which is indicative of its virtue, as the Prophet said:
اسْتَقِيمُوا وَلَنْ تُحْصُوا وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ خَيْرَ أَعْمَالِكُمُ الصَّلَةُ وَلَا يُحَافِظُ عَلَى الْوُضُوءِ إِلاَّ مُوْمِن
Adhere to righteousness, you will never be able encompass it all. Know that the best of your deeds is Salah. None will preserve his Wuddu' except the believer.
Having described them with these praiseworthy characteristics and righteous deeds, Allah then says:
أُوْلَيِكَ هُمُ الْوَارِثُونَ
الَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ الْفِرْدَوْسَ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ
These are indeed the heirs. Who shall inherit Firdaws. They shall dwell therein forever.
It was recorded in the Two Sahihs that the Messenger of Allah said:
إِذَا سَأَلْتُمُ اللهَ الْجَنَّةَ فَاسْأَلُوهُ الْفِرْدَوْسَ فَإِنَّهُ أَعْلَى الْجَنَّةِ وَأَوْسَطُ الْجَنَّةِ وَمِنْهُ تَفَجَّرُ أَنْهَارُ الْجَنَّةِ وَفَوْقَهُ عَرْشُ الرَّحْمن
If you ask Allah for Paradise, then ask him for Al-Firdaws, for it is the highest part of Paradise, in the middle of Paradise, and from it spring the rivers of Paradise, and above it is the (Mighty) Throne of the Most Merciful.
Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Abu Hurayrah said,
The Messenger of Allah said:
مَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ إِلاَّ وَلَهُ مَنْزِلَاانِ مَنْزِلٌ فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَمَنْزِلٌ فِي النَّارِ فَإِنْ مَاتَ فَدَخَلَ النَّارَ وَرِثَ أَهْلُ الْجَنَّةِ مَنْزِلَهُ فَذَلِكَ قَوْلُهُ
أُوْلَيِكَ هُمُ الْوَارِثُونَ
There is not one among you who does not have two homes, a home in Paradise and a home in Hell. If he dies and enters Hell, the people of Paradise will inherit his home, and this is what Allah said:
أُوْلَيِكَ هُمُ الْوَارِثُونَ
(These are indeed the heirs).
Ibn Jurayj narrated from Layth from Mujahid:
أُوْلَيِكَ هُمُ الْوَارِثُونَ
(These are indeed the heirs),
The believers will inherit the homes of the disbelievers because they were created to worship Allah Alone with no partner or associate. So when these believers did what was enjoined on them of worship, and the disbelievers neglected to do that which they were commanded to do and for which they had been created, the believers gained the share that they would have been given if they had obeyed their Lord. Indeed, they will be given more than that as well.
This is what was reported in Sahih Muslim from Abu Burdah, from his father, from the Prophet who said:
يَجِيءُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ نَاسٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ بِذُنُوبٍ أَمْثَالِ الْجِبَالِ فَيَغْفِرُهَا اللهُ لَهُمْ وَيَضَعُهَا عَلَى الْيَهُودِ وَالنَّصَارَى
Some of the Muslims will come on the Day of Resurrection with sins like mountains, but Allah will forgive them and put (their burden of sin) on the Jews and Christians.
According to another version:the Messenger of Allah said:
إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ دَفَعَ اللهُ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ يَهُودِيًّا أَوْ نَصْرَانِيًّا فَيُقَالُ هَذَا فِكَاكُكَ مِنَ النَّار
When the Day of Resurrection comes, Allah will appoint for every Muslim a Jew or Christian, and it will be said, This is your ransom from the Fire.
Umar bin Abd Al-Aziz asked Abu Burdah to swear by Allah besides Whom there is no other God, three times, that his father told him that from the Prophet, and he swore that oath. I say:this Ayah is like Allah's saying:
تِلْكَ الْجَنَّةُ الَّتِى نُورِثُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا مَن كَانَ تَقِيّاً
Such is the Paradise which We shall give as an inheritance to those of Our servants who have had Taqwa. (19:63)
وَتِلْكَ الْجَنَّةُ الَّتِى أُورِثْتُمُوهَا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
This is the Paradise which you have been made to inherit because of your deeds which you used to do. (43:72)

What is Falah? How and from where can it be obtained?
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ
Success is really attained by the believers - 23:1.
The word falah (translated above as 'success' ) has been used in the Qur'an and Sunnah on numerous occasions. The call to prayers invites every Muslim towards falah five times a day. The word signifies the attainment of all desires as well as protection from all misfortunes. (Qamus). It is so comprehensive in its connotation that it may be regarded as the acme of one's desire - but the total falah, where no desire remains unfulfilled or complete immunity from the vicissitudes of fate exists, is not granted even to great kings or to the most revered prophets of Allah. In any case there is an ever-present fear of a decline in or loss of good fortune, or the apprehension of an impending disaster, and no living person can claim to be free from it.
Thus it is evident that total falah cannot be achieved in this world which is a place of pain and suffering, where nothing is everlasting and everything must ultimately perish. However this priceless commodity will be available in another world, namely the Paradise and it is there that people will achieve all their wishes very promptly وَلَهُم مَّا يَدَّعُونَ (They have all that they call for - 36:57). In that world there will be no sorrow, no distress, and everyone will enter there with the following words on his lips:
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّـهِ الَّذِي أَذْهَبَ عَنَّا الْحَزَنَ إِنَّ رَبَّنَا لَغَفُورٌ شَكُورٌ الَّذِي أَحَلَّنَا دَارَ الْمُقَامَةِ مِن فَضْلِهِ
Praise belongs to Allah who has put away all sorrow from us. Surely our Lord is All-Forgiving, All-Thankful, who of His bounty has made us to dwell in the abode of everlasting life -35:34, 35.
This verse also suggest that in this world there is nobody who at some time or the other has not been afflicted by pain and anguish. Therefore, on entering the Paradise people will say that they have been delivered from all sufferings. In Surah al-A` la while the Qur’ an says that falah may be obtained by purifying oneself against sins (قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ ), it also says that total falah may be achieved in the Hereafter only. A Person who aims at falah must not succumb to the temptations of this world:
بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ
Nay, but you prefer the present life; and the world to come is better, and more lasting. - 8.7: 16, 17
In brief, while total falah may be obtained in the Paradise only, Allah grants falah to his servants in this world also in the narrow sense of the word i.e. he grants them prosperity and relief from pain. In the present verse Allah has promised falah to those believers who possess the seven attributes mentioned therein, and it includes the total falah which can be achieved in the Hereafter only in addition to whatever falah may be obtained in this world.
Here one may ask that while the promise of total falah in the Hereafter to the believers who possess the seven attributes mentioned in this verse is understandable, the common experience is that in this world the recipients of falah (prosperity and success) are generally the infidels and the impious persons. On the other hand the prophets and other reformers have, in all ages, suffered privations of life. The answer to this is that since total falah is to be achieved in the Hereafter only, it is inevitable that everybody in this world, whether he is a good and a pious man or whether he is a wicked person and an unbeliever, must face a certain measure of pain and hardship. Similarly every person, good or bad, has some of his wishes granted in this world. In these circumstances how is one to decide as to which of these two categories is the recipient of falah. The answer to this question can only be provided by the fate which awaits them.
Human experience and observations provide sufficient evidence that although the pious people who possess the seven attributes mentioned above may at times face hardships and tribulations in this world, yet very soon they are released from all distress and they achieve their wishes. They command the respect of the whole world as long as they live and then after their death their memory is cherished and revered by all.
The seven attributes of a perfect Believer on the basis of which he has been promised falah in this verse both in this world and in the Hereafter
The first and most important attribute which is fundamental and basic to everything else is that a person should be a true believer. The other seven attributes mentioned in the verse are discussed below.
The first attribute is خُشُوع Khushu` (translated in the text as being concentrative) during prayers. The literal meaning of this word is "calmness", but in religious terminology it means "to bring about a state of perfect concentration in the heart" so that he does not knowingly allow any thoughts to enter his heart other than the remembrance of Allah. It also means that during prayers a person must abstain from moving his body and limbs unnecessarily (Bayan u1-Qur'an). He must, in particular, avoid those movements of the body which have been forbidden by the Holy Prophet ﷺ and which the jurists have compiled under the general heading مَکرُوھَات (things which are disliked during prayers). Tafsir Mazhari quotes the above definition of خُشُوع (Khushu`) from Sayyidna ` Amr Ibn Dinar ؓ . Other scholars have given different definitions of this word, but they are in fact further details of what the serenity of the heart and the body means. For instance, according to Sayyidna Mujahid, casting down one's eyes and keeping the voice low is خُشُوع whereas Sayyidna ` Ali ؓ said that خُشُوع is to refrain from casting sideways glances obliquely. Sayyidna ` Ata' says that the word خُشُوع means "not toying with any part of the body". There is a hadith from Sayyidna Abu Dharr ؓ that the Holy Prophet ﷺ once said, "Allah keeps an eye over His servant during prayers so long as he concentrates his attention on Allah, but when he turns his attention elsewhere and glances obliquely sideways, Allah also turns away from him." (Mazhari) The Holy Prophet ﷺ is reported to have directed Sayyidna 'Anas رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ to keep his eyes fixed at the spot which he touched with his forehead when performing sajdah (prostration) and not to look right and left during prayers.
Sayyidna Abu Hurairah ؓ says that the Holy Prophet ﷺ ﷺ a man praying who was toying with his beard and remarked لو خشع قلب ھٰذا لخشعت جوارحہ (If this man had Khushu` in his heart, his body and limbs would have remained calm).
How important is Khushu' during prayers?
Imam Ghazzali, Qurtubi and some other scholars are of the view that Khushu` during prayers is obligatory and a prayer offered without total Khushu` will be deemed not to have been performed. However there are others who believe that while Khushu' is the essence of prayers and its absence deprives the prayers of their true purpose, yet it cannot be regarded as an indispensable condition for the prayers to be valid and its absence will not render it necessary to repeat performance of the prayers.
Hakim ul-Ummah has written in Bayan ul-Qur'an that while Khushu' is not a necessary condition for the validity of the prayers, yet it is an essential element for the acceptance of the prayers by Allah and from this point of view it is obligatory. Tabarani in his book al-Mu'jim al-Kabir has related a hadith on the authority of Sayyidna Abu Darda' ؓ that the Holy Prophet ﷺ said, "The first thing that will be taken away from this Ummah is Khushu' so much so that a time will come when no one will be left to practice Khushu"'.
The second attribute of a good Muslim is that he abstains from frivolous and vain things. لَغو (Laghw, translated in the text as 'vain things' ) means useless talk and action which do not bring any religious reward and in its extreme form it may include sinful acts that are positively harmful and must, therefore, be avoided. And in its mild from laghw is neither useful nor harmful but it is very desirable to give up this habit. There is a hadith in which the Holy Prophet ﷺ said من حسن اسلام المرأ ترکہ ما لا یعنیہ (It is a part of one's being a fair Muslim that he gives up all that is useless for him). For these reasons guarding oneself against useless acts has been described as an attribute of a good Muslim in this verse.
The third attribute is Zakah which, literally means "to purify" but in religious terminology it means giving in charity a portion of one's wealth subject to certain prescribed conditions and the word has been generally used in the Qur'an in this sense. This meaning of the word can be applied in this verse also. However this meaning of the word in the present context has been questioned by some scholars on the ground that this verse was revealed in Makkah when Zakah was not made obligatory. (Zakah was made obligatory after Hijrah to Madinah). Ibn Kathir and other commentators have answered this objection by claiming that Zakah was in actual fact made obligatory in Makkah as will be evident from Surah Al-Muzzammil, which is by consensus a Makkan Surah, in which the words وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ (and pay zakah) occur alongside of the words أَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ. However arrangements for its collection and details regarding the determination of wealth liable to Zakah .(nisab) were settled after Hijrah to Madinah. According to this interpretation of the verse Zakah was made obligatory in Makkah but rules prescribing its various details were formulated in Madinah. As regards those scholars who hold the view that Zakah was made obligatory after Hijrah to Madinah, they believe that the word must be interpreted here in its common literal sense i.e. to purify one's own self. There is an indication in the verse itself which supports this meaning of the word. It will be observed that wherever obligatory Zakah has been mentioned in the Qur'an the words used are لِلزَّكَاةِ فَاعِلُونَ ، یوتون الزَّكَاةِ and اُتوا الزَّكَاةِ (which refer to the 'payment' of zakah) whereas here the words used are لِلزَّكَاةِ فَاعِلُونَ (who are performers of zakah) which clearly indicates that in this verse the word has not been used in its technical meaning. Besides, the word فَاعِلُونَ (performers) is related to فعل (performance) and technically Zakah is not an act but a portion of wealth and the use of the word فَاعِلُونَ for this portion of wealth needs suitable explanation. If the technical meaning of the word Zakah is adopted, then its being obligatory and binding on all Muslims is undisputed and if the word means purification of soul then that too is obligatory and to cleanse one's soul of impurities and sins such as polytheism, hypocrisy, vanity, jealousy, hatred, greed, miserliness is called تزکیہ (tazkiyah). All these things are forbidden and are major sins and it is obligatory to purify one's soul from them.
Forth Attribute is guarding ones private parts against unlawful liaison. وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ (And who guard their private parts except from their wives or from those (slave-girls) owned by their right hands - 23:5, 6). They satisfy their needs with their wives and their legal bondmaids according to the prescribed laws and avoid unlawful liaison. About these people the Qur'an says فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ (Because they are not liable to blame - 23:6), which also means that the sexual desire must be kept under strict control and must not be allowed to become a means of gratification of one's passions.

Tafsir Surat Al-Mu'minun: 1-11
Sesungguhnya beruntunglah orang-orang yang beriman. (Yaitu) orang-orang yang khusyu dalam shalatnya. Dan orang-orang yang menjauhkan diri dari (perbuatan dan perkataan) yang tiada berguna. Dan orang-orang yang menunaikan zakat. Dan orang-orang yang menjaga kemaluannya. Kecuali terhadap isteri-isteri mereka atau budak yang mereka miliki; maka sesungguhnya mereka dalam hal ini tiada terceIa. Tetapi barangsiapa mencari yang di balik itu maka mereka itulah orang-orang yang melampaui batas. Dan orang-orang yang memelihara amanat-amanat (yang dipikulnya) dan janjinya. Dan orang-orang yang memelihara shalatnya. Mereka Itulah orang-orang yang akan mewarisi. (Yakni) yang akan mewarisi surga Firdaus; mereka kekal di dalamnya.
Ayat 1
Firman Allah ﷻ: “Sesungguhnya beruntunglah orang-orang yang beriman.” (Al-Mu'minun: 1)
Maksudnya mereka telah mendapatkan kemenangan, kebahagiaan, serta memperoleh keberuntungan. Mereka itu adalah orang-orang mukmin yang mempunyai sifat-sifat berikut ini:
Ayat 2
Firman Allah ﷻ: “Orang-orang yang khusyu dalam shalatnya.” (Al-Mu'minun: 2)
Ali bin Abi Thalhah menceritakan dari Ibnu Abbas: “khaasyiuuna (orang-orang yang khusyu) yaitu orang-orang yang takut lagi penuh ketenangan.” Dari Ali bin Abi Thalib ra: “Yang dimaksud dengan khusyu di sini adalah kekhusyuan hati.” Sedangkan al-Hasan al-Bashri mengungkapkan: “Kekhusyuan mereka itu berada di dalam hati mereka, sehingga karenanya mereka menundukkan pandangan serta merendahkan diri mereka.”
Khusyu dalam shalat hanya dapat dilakukan oleh orang yang mengkonsentrasikan hati padanya serta melupakan berbagai aktifitas selain shalat, serta mengutamakan shalat atas aktifitas yang lain. Pada saat itulah akan terwujud ketenangan dan kebahagiaan baginya. Sebagaimana yang disabdakan Rasulullah ﷺ dalam sebuah hadits yang diriwayatkan oleh Imam Ahmad dan an-Nasa-i, dari Anas, dari Rasulullah ﷺ, dimana beliau bersabda: “Diberikan kepadaku kecintaan terhadap wanita dan wangi-wangian, dan shalat dijadikan untukku sebagai amalan yang paling menyenangkan.” (HR Ahmad dan an-Nasa-i).
Ayat 3
Firman Allah ﷻ: “Dan orang-orang yang menjauhkan diri dari [perbuatan dan perkataan] yang tiada berguna.” (Al-Mu'minun: 3).
Yakni dari kebatilan. Yang mana hal itu mencakup juga kemusyrikan, sebagaimana yang dikatakan oleh sebagian mereka, serta berbagai ucapan dan perbuatan yang tidak membawa faedah dan manfaat, sebagaimana yang difirmankan Allah: “Dan apabila mereka bertemu dengan orang-orang yang mengerjakan perbuatan-perbuatan yang tidak berfaedah, mereka lalui [saja] dengan menjaga kehormatan dirinya.” (Al-Furqaan: 72). Qatadah berkata: “Demi Allah, mereka didatangi perintah Allah yang menghentikan mereka dari hal tersebut [tak berguna].”
Ayat 4
Firman Allah ﷻ: “Dan orang-orang yang menunaikan zakat.” (Al-Mu'minun: 4).
Mayoritas berpendapat bahwa yang dimaksud dengan zakat disini adalah zakat maal (harta), padahal ayat ini adalah Makkiyyah. Yang tampak secara lahiriyah, bahwa yang diwajibkan di Madinah adalah nisab dan ukuran yang khusus. Jika tidak demikian, berarti dasar zakat pertama diwajibkan di Makkah. Dan dalam surah al-An'am yang merupakan surah Makkiyyah, Allah ﷻ berfirman: “Dan tunaikanlah haknya di hari memetik hasilnya.” (al-An’am: 141), bisa saja yang dimaksud dengan zakat di sini adalah penyucian jiwa dari kemusyrikan dan kotoran. Itu sama seperti firman-Nya: “Sesungguhnya beruntunglah orang yang menyucikan jiwa itu, dan sesungguhnya merugilah orang yang mengotorinya.” (asy-Syams: 9-10). Wallaahu alam.
Ayat 5-7
Firman Allah ﷻ: “Dan orang-orang yang menjaga kemaluaannya, kecuali terhadap istri-istri mereka atau budak yang mereka miliki; maka sesungguhnya mereka dalam hal ini tiada tercela. Barangsiapa yang mencari dibalik itu, maka mereka itulah orang-orang yang melampaui batas.” (Al-Mu'minun: 5-7).
Yakni orang-orang yang memelihara kemaluan mereka dari yang haram, sehingga mereka tidak terjerumus dalam hal-hal yang dilarang oleh Allah ﷻ baik itu dalam bentuk perzinaan maupun liwath [homoseksual]. Dan mereka tidak mendekati kecuali istri-istri mereka sendiri yang telah dihalalkan oleh Allah bagi mereka atau budak-budak yang mereka miliki. Barangsiapa yang mengerjakan apa yang dihalalkan oleh Allah, maka tidak ada cela dan dosa baginya. Oleh karena itu, Allah ﷻ berfirman:
Firman Allah ﷻ: “Maka sesungguhnya mereka dalam hal ini tiada tercela. Tetapi barangsiapa mencari yang dibalik itu.” (Al-Mu'minun: 6-7).
Maksudnya selain istri dan budak. “Maka mereka itulah orang-orang yang melampaui batas.” (Al-Mu'minun: 7). Wallaahu alam.
Imam asy-Syafii dan orang-orang yang sejalan dengannya telah menggunakan ayat berikut ini untuk mengharamkan onani: “Dan orang-orang yang menjaga kemaluannya, kecuali terhadap istri-istri mereka atau budak yang mereka miliki” dia mengatakan: “Pelaku perbuatan ini di luar dari kedua bagian tersebut.” Dan Allah ﷻ berfirman: “Barangsiapa yang mencari dibalik itu, maka mereka itulah orang-orang yang melampaui batas.” Wallaahu alam.
Ayat 8
Firman Allah ﷻ: “Dan orang-orang yang memelihara amanat-amanat [yang dipikulnya] dan janjinya.” (Al-Mu'minun: 8).
Yakni jika mereka diberi kepercayaan, maka mereka tidak akan mengkhianatinya tetapi mereka menunaikannya kepada yang berhak. Dan jika mereka berjanji atau melakukan akan perjanjian, maka mereka menepatinya, tidak seperti sifat-sifat orang munafik.
Ayat 9
Firman Allah ﷻ: “Dan orang-orang yang memelihara shalatnya.” (Al-Mu'minun: 9).
Maksudnya senantiasa mereka mengerjakannya tepat pada waktunya, sebagaimana diungkapkan oleh Ibnu Masud, aku pernah bertanya kepada Rasulullah ﷺ, kutanyakan: “Ya Rasulallah, apakah amal perbuatan yang paling disukai Allah?” Beliau menjawab: “Shalat tepat pada waktunya.” “Lalu apa lagi?” tanyaku. Beliau menjawab: “Berbakti kepada kedua orang tua.” “Kemudian apa lagi?” tanyaku lebih lanjut. Maka beliau menjawab: “Jihad di jalan Allah.” Diriwayatkan oleh al-Bukhari dan Muslim di dalam kitab ash-Shahihain.
Qatadah berkata: “Tepat pada waktunya, ruku dan sujudnya.”
Ayat 10-11
Setelah Allah mensifati mereka dengan sifat-sifat terpuji dan berbagai perbuatan mulia, Dia berfirman: “Mereka itulah orang-orang yang akan mewarisi, [yakni] yang akan mewarisi Surga Firdaus. Mereka kekal di dalamnya.” (Al-Mu'minun: 10-11).
Dalam kitab ash-Shahihain disebutkan, bahwa Rasulullah ﷺ telah bersabda: “Jika kalian meminta surga kepada Allah, maka mintalah surga Firdaus kepada-Nya, karena sesungguhnya Firdaus adalah surga yang paling tengah dan paling tinggi. Diperlihatkan kepadaku di atasnya terdapat Arsy Rabb yang Maha Pemurah.” (HR Al-Bukhari dan Muslim).
Ibnu Abi Hatim meriwayatkan dari Abu Hurairah ra., dia bercerita, Rasulullah ﷺ bersabda: “Tidak seorang pun dari kalian melainkan mempunyai dua kedudukan. Satu kedudukan di surga dan satu kedudukan di neraka. Jika dia mati dan masuk neraka, maka kedudukannya di surga diwarisi oleh penghuni surga. Dan itulah makna firman-Nya: ‘Mereka itulah orang-orang yang akan mewarisi’.” (HR Ibnu Majah).
Dan yang lebih mendalam dari hal itu adalah apa yang ditegaskan dalam shahih Muslim, dari Abu Burdah, dari Abu Musa, dari ayahnya, dari Nabi, beliau bersabda: “Pada hari kiamat kelak, akan datang beberapa orang dari kaum Muslimin dengan membawa dosa sebesar gunung, lalu Allah memberikan ampunan kepada mereka dan meletakkannya kepada orang-orang Yahudi dan orang-orang Nasrani.”
Dan dalam lafadz yang juga dari Muslim, Rasulullah ﷺ bersabda: “Jika hari kiamat tiba, Allah menyodorkan kepada setiap Muslim seorang Yahudi atau Nasrani, lalu dikatakan: ‘Inilah pembebas [tebusan]mu dari neraka’.” (HR Muslim). Umar bin Abdul Aziz pernah meminta kepada Abu Burdah untuk bersumpah dengan menyebut: “Demi Allah yang tiada Ilah (Yang haq) selain Dia, sebanyak tiga kali, bahwa ayahnya pernah menyampaikan hadits dari Rasulullah ﷺ tentang hal itu.” Maka Abu Burdah pun bersumpah kepadanya.
Perlu saya (Ibnu Katsir) katakan bahwa ayat ini senada dengan firman Allah ﷻ berikut ini, “Itulah surga yang akan Kami wariskan kepada hamba-hamba Kami yang selalu bertakwa.” (QS. Maryam: 63). Wallahu alam.
1-2. Sungguh, pasti beruntung orang-orang mukmin yang telah mantap imannya dan terbukti dengan mengerjakan amal-amal saleh. Orang yang demikian itu ialah orang yang khusyuk dalam salatnya, yakni tumakninah, rendah hati, fokus, serta menyadari dengan sepenuuhnya bahwa dia sedang menghadap Sang Penciptanya (Lihat juga: al-Baqarah/2: 45'46). 1-2. Sungguh, pasti beruntung orang-orang mukmin yang telah mantap imannya dan terbukti dengan mengerjakan amal-amal saleh. Orang yang demikian itu ialah orang yang khusyuk dalam salatnya, yakni tumakninah, rendah hati, fokus, serta menyadari dengan sepenuuhnya bahwa dia sedang menghadap Sang Penciptanya (Lihat juga: al-Baqarah/2: 45'46).
Beriman kepada Allah dan rukun iman yang enam. Dalam ayat ini Allah menjelaskan bahwa sungguh berbahagia dan beruntung orang-orang yang beriman, dan sebaliknya sangat merugi orang-orang kafir yang tidak beriman, karena walaupun mereka menurut perhitungan banyak mengerja-kan amal kebajikan, akan tetapi semua amalnya itu akan sia-sia saja di akhirat nanti, karena tidak berlandaskan iman kepada-Nya.

Perjuangan Dan Kemenangan
“Sesungguhnya menanglah orang-orang yang beriman." (ayat 1).
Kalimat “menang" adalah bukti bahwasanya perjuangan telah dilalui menghadapi musuh atau berbagai kesulitan. Orang tidaklah sampai kepada
tengah jalan. Memang sungguh banyak yang harus diatasi, dikalahkan dan ditundukkan dalam melangkah ke muka mencapai kemenangan. Kalau sekiranya suatu bangsa mempunyai banyak musuh atau rintangan di dalam perjalanannya untuk mencapai martabat yang lebih tinggi.
Rintangan dari kebodohan, rintangan dari nafsu-nafsu jahat yang ada dalam diri sendiri, yang mungkin membawa derajat kemanusiaan jadi jatuh, sehingga kembali ke tempat kebimbangan rintangan dari syaitan yang selalu merayu dan memperdayakan, semuanya pasti bertemu dalam hidup.. Hati nurani manusia ingin kejayaan, kemulIsan dan kedudukan yang lebih tinggi. Tetapi hawanafsunya mengajaknya atau menariknya supaya jatuh ke bawah. Kalau kiranya “pegangan hidup" tidak ada, diri itu pasti kalah dan tidak tercapai apa yang dimaksud, yaitu kemenangan hidup.
Maka di dalam ayat ini diberikan keterangan bahwasanya kemenangan pastilah diriapat oleh orang yang beriman, orang yang percaya. Kalimat ‘qad" yang terletak di pangkal fi'il matihi (Aflaha) menurut undang-undang bahasa Arab adalah menunjukkan kepastian. Sebab itu maka ia (Qad) diartikan “sesungguhnya".
Hanyalah adanya kepercayaan adanya Tuhan jalan satu-satunya buat membebaskan diri dari perhambaan hawanafsu dunia dan syaitan. Penga-laman-pengalaman di dalam hidup kita kerapkali menunjukkan bahwasanya di atas kekuasaan kita yang terbatas ini ada kekuasaan Ilahi. Kekuasaan Ilahi itulah yang menentukan, bukan kekuasaan kita. Tetapi kepercayaan dalam hati saja, belumlah cukup kalau belum diisi dengan perbuatan. Iman mendorong sanubari buat tidak mencukupkan dengan hanya semata pengakuan lidah.
Dia hendaklah diikuti dengan bukti dan bakti. Kemudian bukti-bukti itu memperkuat Iman pula kembali. Di antara Iman dan perbuatan adalah isi-mengisi, kuat-menguatkan. Bertambah banyak ibadat, bertambah kuatlah Iman. Bertambah kuat Iman, bertambah pula kelezatan dalam jiwa lantaran beribadat dan beramal.
Maka ditunjukkanlah 6 (enam) syarat yang wajib dipenuhi sebagai bukti Iman. Kalau 6 syarat ini telah terisi, pastilah menang. Menang mengatasi kesulitan diri sendiri, menang dalam bemegara, dan lanjutan dari kemenangan semuanya itu ialah syurga jannatul firdaus.
Syarat kemenangan Peribadi Mu'min yang pertama ialah:
Sembahyang Yang Khusyu'
“Orang-orang yang khusyu' di dalam melakukan sembahyang." (ayat 2).
Tuhan tidaklah semata-mata untuk dipercayai. Kalau semata hanya dipercayai, tidaklah akan terasa betapa eratnya hubungan dengan DIA.
Tuhan tidaklah semata-mata untuk dipercayai. Kalau semata hanya dipercayai, tidaklah akan terasa betapa eratnya hubungan dengan DIA. Kita mempunyai instink rasa takut. Kita dipengaruhi oleh rasa takut kepada kemiakinan, takut kepada kematian, takut akan tekanan-tekanan sesama kita manusia, kezaliman orang-orang yang berkuasa atas kita. Bahkan kadang-kadang manusia yang berani pun ada juga naluri takutnya. Roosevelt Presiden Amerika Syarikat dalam Perang Dunia Kedua, menambahkan lagi salah satu tujuan “Declaration of Human Right" ialah bebas dari rasa takut (freedom from fear). Padahal tidaklah manusia dapat membebaskan diri dari rasa takut itu, sebab naluri rasa takut adalah sebagian dari naluri rasa takut mati. Takut mati ialah karena keinginan hendak terus hidup.
Dengan mengerjakan sembahyang, yaitu bahasa nenek-moyang kita yang telah kita pakai untuk arti “shalat", maka seluruh rasa takut telah terpusat kepada Tuhan, maka tidaklah ada lagi yang kita takuti dalam hidup ini. Kita tidak takut mati, karena dengan mati kita akan segera berjumpa dengan Tuhan untuk mempertanggungjawabkan amat kita selama hidup. Kita tidak takut kepada zalim aniaya sesama manusia, karena sesama manusia itu hanyalah makhluk sebagai kita juga. Kita tidak takut kepada lapar lalu tak makan, karena rezeki kita telah dijamin Tuhan, asai kita mau berusaha. Kita tidak takut menghartang bahaya, karena tidak ada yang bergerak dalam alam ini kalau tidak ditentukan Tuhan. Dengan sembahyang yang khusyu* rasa takut menjadi hilang, lalu timbul perasaan-perasaan yang lain. Timbullah pengharapan (desire) dan pengharapan adalah kehendak asasi manusia. Hidup manusia tidak ada artinya samasekali kalau dia tidak mempunyai pengharapan.
Sembahyang 5 waktu adalah laksana setasiun-setasiun perhentian iatirahal jiwa di dalam perjuangan yang tidak henti-hentinya ini. Sembahyang adalah saat untuk mengambil kekuatan baru melanjutkan perjuangan lagi. Sembahyang dimulai dengan “Allahu Akbar" itu adalah saat membulatkan tagi jiwa kita supaya lebih kuat, karena hanya Allah Yang Maha Besar, sedang segala perkara yang lain adalah urusan kecil belaka. Tak ada kesulitan yang tak dapat diatasi.
Khusyu1 artinya ialah hati yang patuh dengan sikap badan yang tunduk.
Sembahyang yang khusyu*, setelah menghilangkan rasa takut adalah pula menyebabkan berganti dengan berani, dan jiwa jadi bebas. Jiwa tegak terus naik ke atas, lepas dari ikatan alam, langsung menuju Tuhan. Dengan sembahyang barulah kita merasai nilai kepercayaan (Iman) yang tadiriya telah tumbuh dalam hati. Orang yang beriman pasti sembahyang, tetapi sembahyang tidak ada artinya kalau hanya semata gerak badan berdiri, duduk, ruku' dan sujud. Sembahyang mesti berisi dengan khusyu1. Sembahyang dengan khusyu1 adalah laksana tubuh dengan nyawa. Tuhan memberi ukuran waktu paling sedikit (minimum) untuk mengerjakan sembahyang itu 5 waktu. Tetapi sembahyang lima waktu yang khusyu* menyebabkan Mu'min ingin lagi membuat hubungan lebih baik dengan Tuhan, lalu si Mu'min mengerjakan shalat yang nawafil
“Dialah yang menjadikan untuk kamu apa yang ada di bumi semaunya."
(al-Baqarah 29)

“Dan orang-orang yang terhadap segala laku yang sia-sia menampik dengan keras." (ayat 3).
Saat hidup kita dalam dunia ini amatlah singkatnya, dserah yang kita jalani amatlah terbatas. Sedang mencoba-coba mempergunakan umur, meresek meraba ke kiri-kanan, tiba-tiba umur telah habis. Mana yang telah pergi tidak dapat diulangi lagi. Sebab itu maka segala tingkah laku, baik perbuatan atau ucapan hendaklah ditakar sebaik-baiknya.
“Al-Laghwi" dari kata “Laghaa", artinya perbuatan atau kata-kata yang tidak ada faedahnya, tidak ada nilainya. Baik senda-gurau atau main-main yang tak ada ujung pangkalnya.
Kalau perbuatan atau tingkah laku atau perkataan sudah banyak yang percuma dan sia-sia, peribadi tidak jadi naik, melainkan turun kembali. Maka kekuatan peribadi yang telah diriapat dengan sembahyang khusyu* haruslah dipelihara, dengan mengurangi garah, senda-gurau, berjudi walaupun tak bertaruh. Di dalam satu majlia besar, peribadi dapat diukur menurut nilai tingkah laku dan ucapan. Sebagaimana pepatah orang Arab:
“Barangsiapa yang banyak main-main, dipandang orang ringanlah nilai dirinya."
Al-Mukminun (Orang-Orang Beriman)
(Sesungguhnya) lafal Qad di sini menunjukkan makna Tahqiq, artinya sungguh telah pasti (beruntunglah) berbahagialah (orang-orang yang beriman).
