لَعَلَّهُمۡ

يَشۡهَدُونَ
bear witness
قَالُواْ
They said
فَأۡتُواْ
Then bring
بِهِۦ
him
عَلَىٰٓ
before
أَعۡيُنِ
(the) eyes
ٱلنَّاسِ
(of) the people
لَعَلَّهُمۡ
so that they may
يَشۡهَدُونَ
bear witness

Translation

They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify."1

1 - To what they had heard him say. It may also mean "...that they may witness [what will be done to him as punishment]."

Tafsir

They said, 'Then bring him before the people's eyes, that is, openly, that they may testify', against him as being the perpetrator.
