ٱلْأَنْبِيَاء : ٦٥

  • ثُمَّ Then
  • نُكِسُواْ they were turned
  • عَلَىٰ on
  • رُءُوسِهِمۡ their heads
  • لَقَدۡ Verily
  • عَلِمۡتَ you know
  • مَا not
  • هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ these
  • يَنطِقُونَ (can) speak!
Then they reversed themselves,1 [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!"
Footnotes
1 - After first admitting their error, they were seized by pride and obstinacy.
Then they were turned, by God, on their heads, that is to say, they were made to return to their disbelief and said, 'By God, you are certainly aware that these [idols] cannot speak', in other words, how can you thus command us to question them?
