Ayah

Word by Word
ٱلَّذِينَ
(To) those whom
ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمُ
We gave [them]
ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ
the Book
يَعۡرِفُونَهُۥ
they recognize it
كَمَا
like
يَعۡرِفُونَ
they recognize
أَبۡنَآءَهُمۡۖ
their sons
وَإِنَّ
And indeed
فَرِيقٗا
a group
مِّنۡهُمۡ
of them
لَيَكۡتُمُونَ
surely they conceal
ٱلۡحَقَّ
the Truth
وَهُمۡ
while they
يَعۡلَمُونَ
know
ٱلَّذِينَ
(To) those whom
ءَاتَيۡنَٰهُمُ

ٱلۡكِتَٰبَ

Translation

The people of the Book know this as they know their own sons; but some of them conceal the truth which they themselves know.

Tafsir

Those to whom We have given the Scripture, they recognise him, Muhammad may peace and salutation be upon him, as they recognise their sons, because of the descriptions of him in their Scripture: ['Abd Allaah] Ibn Salaam said, 'I recognised him the moment I ﷺ him, as I would my own son; but my recognition of Muhammad may peace and salutation be upon him was more intense'; even though there is a party of them that conceal the truth, that is, his description, while they know, this [truth] which you [Muhammad may peace and salutation be upon him] follow.
