Translation

In their hearts is disease, so Allāh has increased their disease;1 and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.
Footnotes
1 - The "disease" mentioned here includes doubt, hypocrisy, arrogance and disbelief.

Tafsir

In their hearts is a sickness: doubt and hypocrisy, which ails their hearts, debilitating them; and God has increased their sickness with what He has revealed in Al-Qur'an, since they disbelieve it; and there awaits them a painful chastisement because they used to lie (read yukadhdhiboon to imply [that they used to call] the Prophet of God [a liar], or yakdhiboon to imply their [mendacity when] saying 'we believe').
