Translation

A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear.

Tafsir

Al-Hijr (the Rocky Tract) Meccan, consisting of 99 verses. Alif laam raa': God knows best what He means by these [letters]. Those - these verses - are the verses of the Book, Al-Qur'an (aayaatu'l-kitaabi: this annexation functions in the sense of min, 'from') and of a manifest Qur'aan, one that makes evident what is truth and what is falsehood (wa-qur'aanin mubeenin is [made up of] a supplement with an added adjectival qualification).
