Al-Mu'minun: 24

Ayah

ٱلۡمَلَؤُاْ

قَوۡمِهِۦ

مَا
This is not
هَٰذَآ
This is not
إِلَّا
but
بَشَرٞ
a man
مِّثۡلُكُمۡ
like you
يُرِيدُ
he wishes
أَن
to
يَتَفَضَّلَ
assert (his) superiority
عَلَيۡكُمۡ
over you
وَلَوۡ
and if
شَآءَ
Allah had willed
ٱللَّهُ
Allah had willed
لَأَنزَلَ
surely He (would have) sent down
مَلَٰٓئِكَةٗ
Angels
مَّا
Not
سَمِعۡنَا
we heard
بِهَٰذَا
of this
فِيٓ
from
ءَابَآئِنَا
our forefathers
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ
our forefathers

Translation

The chiefs of the Unbelievers among his people said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: his wish is to assert his superiority over you: if Allah had wished (to send messengers), He could have sent down angels; never did we hear such a thing (as he says), among our ancestors of old."
